6 idioms and expressions to welcome Spring
I’m happy to say that Spring has arrived in London. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the plants are beginning to flower. Life is good.
Of course, this immediately made me think of what idioms and expressions we have in the English Language that relate to Spring. After some research, I found six idioms and expressions I’d like to share with you that are commonly used.
The word ‘spring' can be used as a noun and as a verb. It is an irregular verb and its forms are: spring (present), sprang (past simple), sprung (past participle).
1. Charlie has decided to spring his new idea on the committee at the next meeting. (to surprise someone with something)
2. After hours staring at her computer, Sarah sprang into action and started writing. (to suddenly start moving or doing something)
3. When Joe saw Maya enter the room, he sprang to his feet and crossed the room to greet her. ( to stand up quickly)
4. I woke up this morning and I was delighted to see that my tulips had sprung up overnight. (to appear suddenly)
5. The party always springs to life when Jenny is around. (become alive)
6. I don’t think nightclubs are for me anymore. After all, I’m no spring chicken. (not so young anymore)
